About
A neighborhood sento founded in 1949, a 1-minute walk from Koshinzuka Station on the Toden Arakawa Line (an 11-minute walk from Otsuka Station on the JR Yamanote Line) near a shopping street in Sugamo, Toshima Ward. Now run by the fourth-generation owner, it was fully renovated on October 8, 2022. Unusually for a sento, the changing room and bathroom floors are covered with tatami-textured mats, said to be soft and slip-resistant. The baths include a silk bath, a lying/reclining bath, a jet bath, an electric bath, a sitting bath, an indoor rotenburo-style bath (42C), a roughly 15C cold bath, and a separate, heavily bubbled "bihou" bath at about 30C. The sauna is a dry sauna heated to roughly 90C or above using two heat sources (SAWO and Bona stoves), with automatic loyly performed every 20 minutes at :15, :35, and :55. The men's bath has an outdoor rest area, while the women's bath has an indoor rest area instead. Shampoo and body soap are provided. Hours are 15:00-24:00 on weekdays and 12:00-24:00 on weekends and holidays; closed on Tuesdays. Admission is ¥600 for adults, ¥200 for children (6-11), and ¥100 for young children (under 6); sauna use requires an additional fee that is not publicly listed.
